Ok, Jake went in today for his little "big man's surgery" - aka circumcision. The nurses that took him back were really nice and even gave stickers and bubbles to both Jake and Rhyne to ease their minds about being "behind the curtain". Across the aisle from us was a lady who looked to be in her late 40s - who obviously overheard us talking to the nurse about Rhyne and Jake's adoption from Russia. It seems the first thing everyone ask is "how old are they" - my answer . . . "Rhyne just turned 2 in November and Jake will be 2 in April". Next question "are they brother and sister". First of all, that question bothers me because "yes they are brother and sister", but I know what they really mean to be asking is "are they biological brother and sister". We give the same answer every time -"nope, they're only 5 months apart". Ok - off my soapbox.
The lady across the aisle was there with her mother who was having surgery. I did not get her name, but she came over to say that she overheard that we just came back from Russia where we adopted our children. She proceeded to tell us that her daughter adopted a little boy from Kemerevo 2 years ago and was trying to explain to her elderly mother that our two children came from Russia just like her grandson. Small world.
The surgery went well and quick - a total of only 45 minutes for the surgery and recovery time!.
Let's just say without going into details the next 24 hours were like nothing I'd ever experienced. Thank goodness for the prescription of Lortab!!
