03/07/06 - Well we took Jake for his CAT scan this morning. We were told not to give him anything to eat or drink after midnight, because he would be sedated for this procedure due to his age. So far so good. We arrive at the hospital, sign in, and fill out all the registration papers, and head off to the waiting area.
Next thing we know, this little boy (he was probably early 20s, but still looked like a little boy) escorted us to the CAT scan area. There we were told "let's try it without sedation first". WHAT??? He's almost 2, do you really think he's going to lay still for 10 minutes??
They wrapped him up mummy style, then strapped him down. Next they literally taped his head down in 2 places to the table. I'm thinking, hey this may actually work. He was a trooper at first, just amazed by the machine and probably scared to move. Once they started the machine up, it was over with - the crying and screaming began. Yep, they should have listened to us and should have sedated him first.
So, we move on to the room where they are going to sedate him. "Did he eat or drink anything after midnight", No. "Did he take any meds"? Yes, he had cold medicine. There went that red flag. She proceeded to listen to his chest and said since he was congested, they did not recommend anesthesia. I muttered, "I should have brought that Lortab" (leftover from the surgery).
Bottom line, procedure was scratched and rescheduled for Thursday morning. I definitely will be bringing the bottle of Lortab - one dose for him and one for me!

CAT Scan - Part 2!
03/09/06 - Yeah!! Jake finally got his CAT scanned this morning! All it took was a little help from our good friend - Lortab and some major rocking. He was a trooper! We hated to drug him, but the alternative was sedation, which would have been much worse - recovery wise. A friendly nurse walked through the x-ray waiting room and saw Jake stretched out across some chairs asleep, "What a good baby. You mean he just went to sleep right there in the chair?". We both just smiled and said, "Yes, he is a good baby".
We placed him on the table and the nice nurse put a warm blanket on him, turned the lights down, and then she let him lay there a few minutes before strapping him down. He did wake up and whimper a little as the table slid him into the machine, but with a little comforting from Mama and Dada, he held still long enough for them to get a good image of his head. Now we just wait for the results . . .
